Book Donation Policy

Davis Memorial Library Book Donation Policy

  • No more than 20 books by any one patron may be donated in a month.
  • All books must first be inspected and accepted by a librarian.
  • The librarians reserve the right to reject any material they deem unfit for resale or inappropriate.
  • Call first to coordinate your donation.

We gratefully accept:

  • Recent Adult Fiction and Non-Fiction titles in good condition (hardcover or paperback)
  • Children’s picture books and chapter books
  • Young Adult titles
  • How-to books such as crafts, gardening or cookbooks
  • Specialty “coffee table” books such as fine art or photography

We are unable to accept:

  • Textbooks, encyclopedias, or spiral bound books
  • Books with stains, odors, dirty, dusty, or that are in disrepair
  • Magazines, brochures or guides
  • Antique books or large collections

Other locations that may accept books:

  • Goodwill, Salvation Army or other thrift stores
  • Bookstores that buy back popular titles in good condition and then resell (LetterPress, Longfellow, Nonesuch, Sherman’s)
  • Used bookstores (Yes Books, Greenhand Books)
  • eBay or other online sellers
  • Antique or specialty book shops (Carlson Turner Antiquarian Books, Harding’s Bookstore)
  • Limington Swap Shop

Recycle your books:

If your books aren’t in great shape consider recycling them. Our town’s recycling bin accepts books; there is no need to remove the cover.

Thank you for donating your books to the Davis Memorial Library!
