Our Mission
Incorporated in 2002, the Friends of the Davis Memorial Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose purpose is to preserve and support the Limington Davis Memorial Library.
As a group, we promote public knowledge of the Davis Memorial Library’s resources, services, and programs. We raise funds to supplement library initiatives and administer grants awarded to the library. The Friends ensure the library continues to be a center of the Limington community, promoting a love of reading and lifelong learning.
Our History

The Friends Group, as we are familiarly called, has been associated with the library for over 30 years. It started as a group of mothers with young children who regularly attended the library for children’s story hour. The Friends Group worked to raise money for new library books through events like plant and book sales and cake auctions.
The Friends Group formally incorporated as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization in May of 2002. By officially gaining non-profit status the Friends of the Davis Memorial Library were able to apply for grant money and engage in fundraising efforts. Their first major initiative for the Davis Memorial Library Building Committee was fundraising to construct an addition to the library.
Unfortunately, the building initiative did not come to fruition. By the end of 2006, the expansion was unsuccessful due to the lack of additional funds by the town. The Friends Group used the funds to fix structural issues and renovate the library’s interior, resulting in the library you see today.
Recognizing the important work the Friends of the Davis Memorial Library started, other interested individuals came forward in 2010 to continue this work. This group went through an extensive process to file the necessary forms to maintain the corporation’s tax-exempt status and continue this charitable organization. Today, the Friends of the Davis Memorial Library exists as an official non-profit organization and continues the legacy of continuing to sustain the library for the people of Limington.
